I love art that nails me to the ground and blows my mind as well as captivates my eye. I love figurative painters that suggest more than they describe. Although seductive, the word “surreal“ isn’t totally appropriate to describe them. They operate unsettling portraits, distorted by some kind of excess or under a spell. Their technique often seems discomforting at first: dripping, splattering, scraping and sometimes a monstrous thickness. It's a feast for the eye. Something the computer screen can hardly render with its light pixels. It's tactile. The goal is not to demonstrate some kind of virtuosity but to find a new pathway to reality. A pathway woven with emotions, therefore extremely intimate. With this painting, we are far from wall decoration! If a certain violence can sometime come out of this it's because conventions are put to the test. Our visual habits are shaken. We don't look away from those works without reaching a bit of air. As if life was suddenly more intense.
Since my teenage years, I strive to be one of those painters. Everyday.

The materials I use to paint are traditional materials proven to last for centuries by the tradition of oil painting on canvas. I paint on Belgian linen canvas and I mainly use extra-fine oil color (either ground in walnut or linseed oil) by Kama Pigments. My primer is also Kama Pigments' acrylic gesso.
